Granite Bay’s roots lead back to the early 1850’s, when gold miners first settled the banks of the American River. In its earliest beginnings, it was known as “Granite Bar,” a small mining camp just below Horseshoe Bar. The community was until recently considered part of the city of Roseville, but in the 1980’s residents of the area felt the goal and lifestyle of Roseville was not consistent with their own. A proposition was put before the Placer County Board of Supervisors for the community to be recognized as the unincorporated community of Granite Bay. Granite Bay became the official name of the area on July 28, 1987. For more information on the history of Granite Bay, go to Granite Bay’s “unofficial” web site.

Granite Bay has grown significantly to a community of approximately 20,000 residents. Bordering Lake Folsom, it is a bedroom community comprised largely of custom homes, ranging in price from approximately $400,000 to over $2 million. It is one of the most sought-after communities in the greater Sacramento area; in fact, 35% of the $1M home sales in Placer County were sold here.

People move to Granite Bay for many reasons, including the close proximity to Folsom Lake State Park, one of the most renowned private Golf Clubs in the area, and an outstanding array of public schools. The Eureka Union School District is responsible for children in grades K-8; Granite Bay High School is part of the Roseville Joint School District.
