There’s a sign on Highway 80 as you enter Loomis that says, “A small town is like a large family.” That’s Loomis – small, friendly, and determined to stay that way. Loomis isn’t just a town, it is truly a community. If you want to live in a wonderful place with top-rated public schools and benefit from a no-growth policy established long ago to keep Loomis from becoming a mega-city, Loomis may be the place for you. For example, when Loomis was incorporated in 1984, about 4,000 people lived there. Twenty years later, that number has grown to only 6,250. The average lot size is about one acre, a rare find in Placer County.

Loomis revels in local uniqueness such as its Day before Thanksgiving Parade, which landed Loomis a mention in “Betty,” an off-shoot of the “Archie” comic book. And there’s the Eggplant Festival in Loomis. Legend has it that the Eggplant Festival was thought up by two guys perched on adjacent bar stools after a few drinks, who decided that Loomis needed a food festival, and that eggplant was the only food they could remember not being taken by any other city.

Quality of Life While Loomis prides itself on staying true to its country roots and restricted growth, the community is far from isolated – Roseville’s shopping areas, including the large Westfield Galleria, and critical services are only 10 minutes away. And with Highway 80 cutting through the center of town, you have easy access to downtown Sacramento and Lake Tahoe/Reno.

Due to its location, growth restrictions, country feel, large lots, and close proximity to Folsom Lake State Park, housing comes at a premium in the community. Loomis has three types of homes – true country residences / horse properties on 3 acre or larger parcels, smaller, older homes close to the town center, and a few select, prestigious communities, mostly gated, that contain custom homes ranging in price from $750,000 to well over $1 million. It, along with its neighbor Granite Bay, is one of the most sought-after communities in the greater Sacramento area.

Loomis also has outstanding public schools. The Loomis Union School District is responsible for children in grades K-8; high schoolers attend Del Oro High School, which is part of the Placer Union High School District.
