Lincoln History and Community Information

Quoting the Lincoln, CA website home page, "Located in picturesque Western Placer County, Lincoln is a small community with big ideas. Combining magnificent new subdivisions with the flare and style of ranch homes and family style living, we invite you to look at our community and discover what we have known for years ...Lincoln has the best life has to offer."

Located 27 miles northeast of Sacramento, the city of Lincoln is a family-oriented community with a Gold Rush history. But perhaps its best known event is the Feats of Clay Festival, a nationally known show for ceramic artists at the 129-year-old Gladding McBean terra cotta plant.

Gladding McBean's products adorn many of the historic buildings in California . The city's heritage dates back to 1864 and can be seen in the renovated Beerman's Beerworks building in the historic section of Lincoln.

A fast-growing city with about 11,000 residents, Lincoln still retains a small town feeling with broad, tree-lined streets and a downtown plaza. New homes are being built rapidly and complement the older housing in the area.

Dotted with more than 30,000 mature oak trees is the master-planned community of Twelve Bridges. Anchored by the acclaimed 18-hole Twelve Bridges Golf Club, approximately half of the community's 3,000 acres will remain open and natural space for all to enjoy. A combination of single and multi-family homes balance retail and neighborhood commercial uses. Community services such as an existing fire station, a medical plaza currently under construction, four planned schools, a library, and more bring into focus the community's master plan.

Situated within the Twelve Bridges development,  Del Webb's top-of-the-line Sun City Lincoln Hills is an active adult community offering retirement living with a golf course, club house, and organized activities. Lincoln Sun City is a fine example of retirement living at its best. Average age there is 63. The residents pride themselves in their levels of fitness. One resident claims to bike 30 miles each Monday morning with her Sun City pals. What a great place to enjoy the best years of one's life.

The Western Placer Unified School District serves Lincoln's zip code (95648). Please note: the school zip code boundaries do not necessarily match the home zip code boundaries. Schools are as follows:
  • Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School
  • Creekside Oaks Elementary School
  • First Street School
  • Glen Edwards Middle School
  • Horizon Instructional Systems
  • Lincoln High School
  • Phoenix High School

Quality of Life

"Community connectedness" is an important component of Lincoln.  The Lincoln Volunteer Center mobilizes residents and resources by encouraging people from the community to volunteer their time toward serving the community in which they live. The end result is a positive impact on the people, agencies and organizations of Lincoln.

Outdoor recreation is easily available locally in the nearby Sierra Nevada foothills, including fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, camping, and much more.  The city of Lincoln has its own airport with a 6,000-foot runway.  Interstate 80 is accessible via Highway 65.

Lincoln Real Estate

Lincoln's General Plan will control development and create a community that maintains Lincoln's unique character of pedestrian-oriented parks, shopping and other gathering centers in an appropriate mix and scale that will enhance "community connectedness." New developments provide affordable and mixed housing while creating paths for walking and bicycling, as well as access for neighborhood electric vehicles, or "NEVs." In anticipation of continued population growth, Lincoln is building new "community villages" with "smart growth" principles coupled with roads and a bypass freeway to relieve traffic congestion.
